MARY ELIZABETH BARNETT MASON Mary (Maye) Mason was born on December 1, 1923 on Barnett Ridge in Fleming, OH. She departed this life on July 13, 2012 in Tampa, FL. She was born to Talmadge Dewitt Barnett and Lenora Adams Barnett. She was the eighth of eight children. Mary attended Vincent High School in Washington County Ohio. She accepted Christ at an early age and attended Barnett Ridge Weslyan Methodist Church. Mary moved to East Chicago, Indiana in 1945. She met Edward H. Mason, Sr. and was maried in 1950 in Crown Point, IN. Born to this union was two daughters: Brenda (Robert) Holmes and Linda (Robert) Esposito; and a son, Edward (Bretta) H. Mason, Jr; one son, Stanley H. Barnett completed the Mason Household; along with two step daughters: Cheryl (Henry) Mitchell and Sheila (Will) Henderson. Mary was preceded in death by six brothers: Harold, Cldye, Orville, Everette, Arza and Glenn. She is survived by her sister, Frances (William) Royal; and sister-in- law, Maxine (Glenn) Barnett. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward H. Mason, Sr.; and by her stepdaughter, Cheryl (Henry) Mitchell. Three grandchildren also preceded her in death: Joy Lyn, Wyatt and Stanley Travis; and eleven grandchildren will always cherish her memory: Bernie, Corey, Curt, Shawn, Sharon, Henry, Mia, Lisa, Belinda, Bakari Mason and Edward H. Mason III. Daisy Peppers of East Chicago has fond memories of her special friend, Maye. Mary was a great cook, who loved festive feasts and Holidays. She attended St. John A.M.E. Zion in Hammond for over fifty years. She loved the Lord. A memorial will be held August 11, 2012 at Steel City Caterers, 411 5th Ave. in Gary with Rev. William P. Jarrett officiating. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the American Breast Cancer Society.
