HALE--Marjorie Coldwell, 84, formerly of Chappaqua, NY, beloved wife of L. Gordon Hale, died Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, MA surrounded by her family. Born and raised in Fall River, MA, she was the daughter of the late John S. and Maybelle M. (Johnson) Coldwell. She attended Durfee High School in Fall River and graduated from Northfield-Mount Hermon Academy in Mount Hermon, MA. Mrs. Hale continued her education earning her Bachelor's Degree from Duke University, class of 1948 where her husband was also a graduate (class of 1946 and fraternity, Phi Delta Theta), and a Master's Degree in psychology and childhood education from Manhattanville College. She was a fraternal member of both Kappa Alpha Theta and Phi Beta Kappa. Mrs. Hale had spent many years tutoring challenged children in the Chappaqua, New York area and gained much joy in helping her students achieve their goals. A resident of Chappaqua, NY since 1952 prior to moving to Wenham in 2010, she was an active member of the First Congregational Church in Chappaqua, NY and an alumni member of their Bell Choir. She was an avid gardener and an accomplished cook, knitter and seamstress. Marjorie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister-in-law and friend who will be missed by all who knew her. In addition to her husband, with whom she shared sixty-two years of marriage, she is survived by three daughters, Christin Hale of VT, Jody Hale Norton of Beverly, MA, Libby Hale Reid of Maryland and one son, Greg Hale of New York City, NY; seven grandchildren, Evan, Emily, Joanne, Jeffrey, Tyler, Alexandra and Jack; and a sister-in-law, Maria Coldwell of Brookline, MA. She was also the sister of the late Jack Coldwell. Her funeral service will be private.
