Luther D. Johnson, 83, of Southport, Fla., passed away Saturday, Jan. 16, 2010, at his residence. Mr. Johnson was born Nov. 17, 1926, in Dunn, N.C., and moved to the Bay County, Fla., area in 1991. He retired from the U.S. Navy after 20 years of service to his country. He was preceded in death by his mother, Alma Johnson Register; father, Cornelius Johnson; brother, Wylie C. Johnson; and sister, Ethel West. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mavis Johnson of Southport, Fla.; two sons, Daniel Johnson and wife, Laura, of Lynn Haven, Fla., and Ron Johnson of Southport, Fla.; daughter, Debbie Ayscue and husband, Don, of Knightdale, N.C.; four sisters, Barbara Norris and husband, Loyied, of Raleigh, N.C., Myrtle Moore and husband, Richard, of Durham, N.C., Eloise Adams and husband, Charlie, of Clayton, N.C., and Judy Haney and husband, James, of Dunn, N.C.; three brothers, James Johnson of Dunn, N.C., Ira B. Johnson and wife, Flora, of Syracuse, N.Y., and Louis Johnson and wife, Jean, of Venice, Fla.; four granddaughters, Dawn Johnson Broege and husband, Trey, Sandra Johnson Bronson and husband, David, Amber Ayscue and Jackie Johnson; and a grandson, Wayne Meadows. A celebration of life service will begin at 2 p.m. today, Jan. 19, 2010, at First Baptist Church of Southport. The family will receive friends after the service.
