LEE, Lura Virginia, Lura Virginia Lee, 92, a long-time resident of Dade City, FL, passed away on October 25, 2014. She was born on November 5, 1921 in Mulberry, FL, to Nicholas and Salle Mae (Newman) Medich. She was the eldest of seven children. She is survived by her three sisters, Marion Dean, Rosalyn "Ro" Bazzell, and Sally Watson, and her brother Nick Medich. Lura was preceded in death by her brothers, George and Wayne Medich. She graduated from Pasco High School in 1941. Lura was married to William (Bill) Edwards Lee, deceased. She is survived by their eight children: Sharon "Sherry" Steiert (Fred, deceased), William C. Lee (Nancy), Karen Morrow (Rod), Lura V. Peck (Jack), Josephine "Jo" Larkin (Bob), Lamarcus Walthugh "Walt" Lee II (Cathy), Leila Exel (Torsten) and Rosalyn "Raison" Stern (Lou). Also surviving Lura is her stepson, William Edwards Lee, Jr. (Cheri) and her beautiful 16 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She was known affectionately as "Mama Lee" to the family and close friends. Mama Lee lived in the Blanton Community since 1939. She and her husband Bill grew citrus, vegetables, watermelon, hay and raised cattle. Following her husband's death, she pursued her entrepreneurial spirit. She owned and operated a successful summer "dude ranch" camp with the help of her children. Upon selling the ranch, she owned and operated a "Duff's Smorgasbord" restaurant in Atlanta, Georgia. Later she was a partner with her son, William C. Lee and managed "The Trading Post" in Vero Beach, FL. After living and working in West Palm Beach, FL, she retired and returned to Dade City, FL, to live with her namesake and son-in-law, Lura and Jack Peck. Mama Lee was beloved by many people. She was an extremely creative personremembered by many for her talent in designing and making extraordinary formal gowns. Mama Lee had a passion for fishing with much skill or good luck-or a lot of both! She was a wonderful cook and welcomed all to her table. A favorite lifetime hobby was reading, attributed to her love of learning. She thought of herself as a "diamond in the rough." Most of all she loved life, loved her family, and was generous to all who could use a helping hand. She tried to live by the maxim "even if you can't change a situation, you may be able to alleviate it." Her quick wit, wisdom, generosity and love will be missed by everyone. A memorial service by her nephew, Pastor Ted Dean will be held Saturday, November 1, 2014 at Hodges Funeral Home, 11441 US Highway 301, Dade City, FL 33525. Pallbearers of the deceased are her son-in-law "dears" Rod Morrow, Jack Peck, Bob Larkin, Torsten "Mick" Exel, Lou Stern, and grandson Scott Steiert (representing Fred Steiert, deceased). Visitation and viewing will be at 1:00 pm, with the memorial service at 3:00 pm followed by the graveside service. Immediately following this service, all friends and family of the deceased are invited to celebrate the life of Mama Lee with food and conversation with the family, at the home of Bob and Jo Larkin.
