JOHNSON Louise Hope, 89, of Ann Arbor, MI, formerly of Kinnelon, NJ, and Englewood Cliffs, NJ, died Monday, June 22, 2009. She was a music teacher in the Englewood Cliffs Public School System and music coordinator in the Wayne Public School System. She was a graduate of Mount Holyoke College and earned her Doctorate of Education from Columbia University. Long a supporter of human rights and education for all children, she was on the front page of the New York Times in 1959: "(Wayne) Teacher Lures Plant as Tax Aid," thinking a strong corporate tax base was good for strong schools. She wrote "Our democratic way of life is only as strong as our public education system." She was the organist and choir director at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Coytesville, NJ, organist at the Presbyterian Church in Englewood, N.J., and Handbell choir director at Community Church of Smoke Rise. She is survived by four nieces: J. Alex Wagner, Ellen Wagner, Lauren Wagner, Karen Coron and seven grand nephews and nieces. Graveside services will be held Friday, June 26, 2009 at Brookside Cemetery, Englewood, N.J. at 12:15 PM.
