Athens - Louise Handley Burke, 87, died Sunday, August 5, 2007. Services will be held on Thursday, August 9, 2007 at 11:00AM at Vineville Baptist Church with the Reverend Ron Holland officiating. Burial will be at 2:00PM in Riverside Cemetery (North Gate). The body will lie in state at the church from 10:30AM until time of service. The family will greet friends following the service. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to: Vineville Baptist Church, 2591 Vineville Avenue, Macon, GA 31204. Mrs. Burke, a former resident of Macon, had lived in Athens for the past six years. She was the wife of the late Ardis A. Burke and the daughter of the late Daniel Melvin Handley and the late Clara Robinson Handley. She was predeceased by her sisters and brothers, Frances Lynch, Catherine Davis, Agnes Hutchinson, Melvin Handley, George Handley, and Robert Handley. A member of Vineville Baptist Church and the XYZ Seniors, Mrs. Burke was also a member of the Business and Professional Womenís Club and a past board member of Macon Rescue Mission. She was employed for 28 years at Warner Robins Air Force Base.Survivors: Daughter and son-in-law, Sandra Burke Ray and Charles A. Ray of Watkinsville, Ga.; Daughter, Brenda Carol Burke of Watkinsville, Ga.; Grandchildren, Lisa R. Simms (Robert) of Watkinsville, Ga., and Chuck A. Ray (Mary Margaret) of Roswell, Ga.; Great-grandchildren, Claire, Courtney and Benjamin Simms and Chase and Murphy Ray; Several nieces and nephews.Hartís Mortuary, Macon, has charge of arrangements.
