JOHNSON, LOU FIELDS, 72, of Louisville, passed from this life to eternal life on Wednesday, August 30, 2006, at her home following a long illness. She died in perfect peace in the presence of her husband. She was born in Benham, Harlan County, KY, on May 17, 1934, to the late Matt and Mary Riddle Fields. Lou and her husband Claude, have lived in Louisville for the past 52 years, but never ceased to call the Tri-City of eastern Kentucky, home. After retirement, they purchased a house in Lynch, KY, and spent most of their time there. Lou was a member of the Okolona Church of God / New Vision Ministry Center, where she had attended since 1960. She was baptized at the Highland Park Church of God by Reverend J.T. Pitts in 1955. She was also a member of the Benham Garden Club where she had served as president. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, William Matthew Johnson; granddaughters, Rachael and Rebecca Fernandes; three brothers and spouses, Herbert Fields (Helen), Dennis Fields, and Carlyn Fields (Mossie Brewer); sisters and spouses, Ruby Lewis (Lester), Verda Roark (Eugene), Arlene Bennett, and Audrey Staverman (Bud). She is survived by her husband, Claude, H. Johnson, Sr.; daughters, Gerri Lynn Schultz (John) , Debra Sue Fernandes (Mark); son, Claude H. Johnson, Jr.; grandsons, Andrew Fernandes, and Nathan and Jacob Johnson; granddaughters, Stefanie Schultz, and Sara and Amanda Fernandes; daughter in-law, Juanita Joseph Johnson, all of Louisville; sister in-law, Elsie Fields of Cumberland, KY; brother-in-law, Aster Bill Bennett of Heidrick, KY; and a host of nephews, nieces and the best friends in the whole wide world. Her funeral services will be at noon, Saturday, September 2, 2006, at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven, 4400 Bardstown Road, with entombment to follow in Resthaven Memorial Park. Visitation will be on Friday, September 1, 2006, from noon-8 p.m. and after 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Lou loved everyone, and if you knew her, you'd have liked her too. She will be greatly missed! Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Hospice and Palliative Care of Louisville.
