DAVIS Lorraine Davis, age 79, of Hillsboro Beach, Fla., previously of Guilford, passed away after a valiant 12 year battle with ovarian cancer on Friday, January 5, 2007. A gentle, dignified and compassionate woman, Lorraine was the beloved wife of 60 years of Frohman Davis; the mother of Arthur Davis, Pamela Davis Rosenberg and Douglas Davis; and the mother-in-law of Joanne Davis, Jeffrey Rosenberg and Barbara Davis. Lorraine is survived by her 11 grandchildren, Joshua and Rachel Davis, Adam, Joshua and Seth Shain, Adam and Samantha Rosenberg, Aaron and Mark Rosenberg, Bonni and Dan Beloin, Joel and Andrea Davis; as well as her five great-granddaughters, Nina, Seymone and Ava Rosenberg and Rebecca and Emma Beloin. She is also survived by her brother, Harvey Stewart and sisters-in-law, Hannah Stewart and Arline Davis, widow of brother-in-law, Selwyn Davis; and loving nieces and nephews. Lorraine was a graduate of Brooklyn College and earned a masters degree in Early Childhood Education from Queens College and was a dedicated kindergarten and early childhood teacher, devoted to teaching inner city children in the New York City system for more than 20 years. She was an active member of the United Federation of Teachers throughout her career. For more than 60 years, Lorraine and Frohman were inseparable while Frohman pursued a renowned civil engineering career and they continued sharing wonderful experiences after their retirement including travels throughout the world. Wherever they were, Lorriane's focus was always her family and her community. On their "Sweet Lorraine, " they sailed the waters of Long Island Sound. An avid bridge player, Lorraine played with good friends regularly at the Guilford Community Center and the Canoe Brook Center in Boca Raton, Fla. A member of the Yale University Woman's Organization, she was active in many of their programs. With the Friendship Force, they traveled overseas and to Japan and in turn hosted foreign club members in their home. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her husband, children, grandchildren, brother and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, friends and fellow members of Temple Beth Tikvah of Madison. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, January 7, 2007 in Temple Beth Tikvah, 196 Durham Road, Madison. Interment will follow in the Temple Beth Tikvah section of Beaver Brook Cemetery, Clinton. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to The Ovarian Cancer Research Fund, 14 Pennsylvania Plaza, Suite 1400, New York, NY 10122 (OCRF.org) or to the Connecticut Hospice, 100 Double Beach Road, Branford, CT 06405. The Weller Funeral Home, 493 Whitney Avenue, New Haven is in charge of arrangements.
