Lois Ruth Kitson (nee Carter) 82, of New Providence, N.J. passed away on Monday, Dec.r 31, 2012. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at the New Providence United Methodist Church, 1441 Springfield Ave., New Providence, on Saturday, Jan. 5 at 11 a.m. For further information or to send a condolence, go to www.bradleyfuneralhomes.com. Born in Albany, N.Y. and raised in upstate New York and Maplewood, N.J., Mrs. Kitson lived in New Providence since 1966. She graduated from Columbia High School in 1947 and earned a B.S. in Psychology in 1951 from St. Lawrence University. At St. Lawrence, she was on the Dean's List, graduating with honors and she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. After college, she worked for New York Telephone until meeting her husband and starting a family. She was a stay at home mom for many years until she took a part time job in 1975 as the Welcome Wagon lady for New Providence, welcoming new residents to the town. When her children were grown, she re-started her career at the telephone company working for AT&T until her retirement. At AT&T she worked in the consultant liaison program where her outstanding work was recognized with several awards. After her retirement, she worked part time at her husband's manufacturing company as the office manager. Mrs. Kitson was an active member of the New Providence United Methodist Church for many years. She enjoyed spending time at the family's vacation homes at the Jersey Shore, the Poconos and in Northwestern New Jersey, as well as playing bridge, golf and tennis. She will be fondly remembered for her sincerely kind personality, her bright smile and her dedication to her family. Mrs. Kitson was the wife of 47 years to Ralph Kitson (deceased in 2009); the mother of Doug Kitson and his wife Jill of Narragansett, R.I.; mother of Scott Kitson of Plainfield; grandmother of Andrew and Meredith; sister of William Carter of New York; and sister of Robert Carter and his wife Nancy of Short Hills. She leaves many loving relatives and friends.
