Lois Cooksey Carter, 76, of Columbia, passed away at home on August 18, 2005, following a long illness. Lois was born to Benjamin H. and Alta Cooksey on September 19, 1928, in Walnut Grove, Missouri. She graduated from Southwest Missouri State University and went on to earn her Master's degree from University of Missouri at Columbia. She taught Spanish at both SMSU and MU after her graduation. She was a member of the Walnut Grove United Methodist Church. She is survived by her son, Stephen Carter and wife Rose, of Columbia brother James B. Cooksey, of Lake Isabella, Calif. sisters, Helen Shult, of Portland, Ore., and Mary Null, of North Highlands, Calif. two grandchildren, Stephanie Carter-Whitbey and Angela Carter, both of Colubmia, Mo. Also surviving are three great-grandchildren. Funeral services are 2 p.m. Tuesday, August 23, 2005, in Thieme-Shadel-Hicks Funeral Service at White Chapel, with visitation one hour prior to the service. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made in Lois' memory to the Evangelical Free Church, 600 Silvey Lane, Columbia, MO 65203, with envelopes provided at the funeral home.
