St. Laurent, 83, of Nashua passed away on Friday, May 22, 2009, at St. Joseph's Hospital surrounded by his family. Born on March 27, 1926, in Sanford, Maine, he was the son of the late Joseph and Aurore (Dube) St. Laurent. Lionel was educated in the Biddeford and West Scarborough schools. In 1942 he entered the novitiate of the Brothers of Christian Instruction at La Prairie, P.Q., Canada. He began his teaching career in Waterville, Maine, in 1945. In 1949 he began teaching in Hoima Uganda and spent the next nine years as a missionary teacher in Uganda. In 1958, after withdrawing from the Brothers of Christian Instruction, Lionel returned to Sanford, where he became an active member of St. Ignatius Parish. He taught religious education classes and was a member of the parish choir. In 1959 he married Suzanne Gendron of Sanford. Lionel began his employment as manager of the supply support department in the Logistics Division of Sanders Associates Inc. in 1961. He and his family took up residence in Nashua first in St. Christopher Parish, then in Immaculate Conception and more recently at St. Joseph Cathedral in Manchester. Mr. St. Laurent has taught in the religious education program and served as an extraordinary minister of the Eucharist. He was also a member of the National Security Industrial Association and a senior member of the Society of Logistics Engineers. Members of his family include his wife of 49 years, Suzanne G. (Gendron) St. Laurent of Nashua; a son, Mark J.; a daughter, Lise M.; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, May 24, from 3 to 7 p.m. at the St. Laurent Funeral Home, 116 Elm St., Nashua 03060. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Cathedral, 145 Lowell St., corner of Pine and Lowell streets, Manchester 03104.
