GADSDEN Linda Robertson Smith, age 41, of Gadsden, formerly of Tuscaloosa, departed this life Sept. 24, 2012. Services will be 12 noon Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012, at Antioch Baptist Church, 2103 E. Broad Street in Gadsden, with Rev. Edward Pace officiating. Burial will follow in New Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery in Ball Play, Ala. with Adams-Buggs Funeral Home, 401 N. 9th Street in Gadsden, directing. Visitation will be Friday night from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Morning Star Baptist Church, 2518 Stevenson Drive in Tuscaloosa.Linda Michelle Smith was born on October 11, 1970, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, the second of two children to Hattie Mae Robertson. She confessed Christ at an early age, and was a member of Hurricane Baptist Church in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, where she sang in the choir. Later, after moving to Gadsden she united with Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Linda was a 1989 graduate of Holt High School, Holt, Alabama. She pursued higher education at the University of Alabama, graduating in 1993 with a Bachelor of Science in Education. She furthered her education by obtaining a Master of Arts in Education from the University of Alabama in 1997. She was an educator in the Alabama public school system for 19 years, and was loved by all her students. She taught at Holt Elementary and Davis-Emerson Middle School in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and at Stowers Hill Intermediate School (now Attalla Elementary) after moving to Gadsden. She was a distinguished educator, having won The Alabama State Teacher of the Year Nominee (Davis-Emerson Middle School, 2004) and Teacher of the Year (Stowers Hill, 2007-08). She also shared her teaching talents by helping with the Vacation Bible School at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. In 2004, she was joined in matrimony with Kevin O. Smith in Jamaica. They spent 16 loving years together. Linda was a loving wife and mother to their child Kayla. She valued family and enjoyed planning and hosting family gatherings. She would always say “let's have a “get-together.” Linda enjoyed traveling, having set foot in Italy, the isles of the Mediterranean, the Caribbean, and Hawaii. Also, she especially liked to shop. She was a treasure to all who knew her, and she is sorely missed.Linda was preceded in death by her grandmother, Bertha Robertson. She leaves to cherish and celebrate her memories her husband of eight years, Kevin Smith; four children, Kayla Smith, Brandon Smith (fiancée Jane) of Shaw Air Force Base, S.C., Kendall Smith (fiancée Carley) of Jacksonville, Ala., and Kelcey Smith of Florence, Ala.; mother, Hattie Mae Robertson of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; mother-in-law, Faye Nell Edwards (Richard); grandmother-in-law, Maudesta Jones; father-in-law, Billy Smith; sister, Regina Samuel (Rev. John Jr.) of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; sisters-in-law, Kimberly Heard (Dale) of Andrews Air Force Base, Md., Keli Edwards of Washington, D.C., Brandy Smith, and Bernia McCain (George) of Birmingham, Ala.; aunts, Ruby Lewis of Tuscaloosa, Ala., Dorothy Woods of Attalla, Ala., and Annie Jean Martin (Rev. George) of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; uncles, Alonzo Hamlett (Marie) of Tuscaloosa, Ala. and James Lewis Jr. (Anita) of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; her treasured nieces and nephews, Jalen Samuel, Jalia Samuel, Daija Heard, Delaney Heard, Deginal Spears Jr., and Gabriel McCain; her special cousins, Janice Henry, Alice Woods, Glenda Brasfield, Tanya Thomas, Alvin Woods, Shelia Davis, Sammy Brown, Lisa Washington, Tony Brown, Semekeyo Steward, and David Martin; and a host of other cherished family. She also leaves her best friend since 6th grade, Erica Lyon of Atlanta, Ga.; Lynette Craig and Felecia Robertson, both of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; and a number of unnamed friends and family whom she loved dearly.Condolences and reflections may be offered at www.adams-buggs.com.
