Linda Elizabeth Rheaume December 28, 1948 - January 30, 2016 It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Linda Rheaume on January 30, 2016. Linda was predeceased by her mother, May Smart and her sister, Lucy Rheaume. She is survived by her son, Cole Rheaume and her brother, Richard Rheaume. Born in Vancouver, British Columbia, Linda had a keen intellect as a Mensa candidate and went on to compete for her high school on the well-known Canadian quiz show competition, Reach for the Top. Linda obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from McGill University and enjoyed a career working as a writer and researcher for Tourism Canada. In addition to her professional pursuits, Linda had an extensive history as a volunteer and social activist, involved in campaigning for the New Democratic Party of Canada, founding the Psychiatric Survivors of Ottawa, and a board member of the Civil Liberties Association to mention a few. Above all, Linda's wonderful sense of humor, love for good political conversation, nurturing disposition, and commitment to helping others whenever the opportunity arose, led to an abundance of long-term friendships which she held dearly. A celebration of Linda's life will be held at the First Unitarian Congregation of Ottawa 30 Cleary Ave on Sunday, February 7th at 3:00 pm. A reception will also take place in Burnaby, B.C. on March 5th at Ocean View Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Psychiatric Survivors of Ottawa www.pso-ottawa.ca
