Linda (Malkofsky) Burton, age 64, of Acton, MA passed away suddenly on December 26, 2014; she was raised in Newton, MA. She is survived by her daughters, Shauna Palange and her husband Tim of Cary, NC and Helena Burton of Acton, MA. Linda is also survived her brother Mark Malkofsky of Auburndale, MA, her brother Irwin Malkofsky and his wife Carol of Waltham, MA, her sister Elaine Drobnis of Sharon, MA, and her brother-in-law Wayne Rubino of Avon, MA. Linda had several stepchildren, many grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. She had extended family in NC. In addition to her family, Linda had many dear friends who treasured her presence in their lives. Linda loved and cared for all her family and friends deeply. She was pre-deceased by her husband Ray Burton, her sister June Rubino, and two brothers, John and Jeff Malkofsky. Linda was a teacher at Congregation Beth Elohim, the JCC in Acton, MA and Kerem Shalom in Concord, MA, for over 15 years. More recently she also taught at Temples in Sudbury, Nashua and Leominster, MA. She taught Hebrew to students in second through seventh grades. She loved her work and her students, seeing in each his or her individual personality and talents. She was a wonderful teacher, who made sure each student achieved his or her goals, and her students loved her nurturing style. She ended each class by handing out candy kisses as her students would recite, "The study of Torah is sweet." She kept teens involved and motivated by hiring them during the summer as teaching assistants at Pizza and Practice. Linda was a master teacher and extremely effective; she traveled to Israel to participate in educational programs to broaden her expertise. Linda was beloved by her fellow teachers, with whom she collaborated on team projects.Linda's passions included painting, writing, photography and travel. She began her travels as an 18-year-old when she lived on a Kibbutz in Israel for a year. She particularly loved travel, and recently had commented to a friend, "I'll go anywhere, including North Dakota in the winter, if I haven't been there before." In 2014, she had enjoyed trips to North Carolina, Washington, D.C., St. Thomas and St. John.Linda laughed easily and often, had a very positive attitude about life, and appreciated each day. She was genuine, kind hearted, loving and giving. In her lifetime, she touched many people's hearts. Her passing is a great sorrow for her family, her friends, and her community. Her legacy is one of strength, positive thinking, and inspiration. We will honor her by emulating her kindness and generosity in our own lives each day.A final service will be held for Linda will be at 10:30 am on January 18, 2015 at Congregation Beth Elohim, 133 Prospect St., Acton, MA.
