Linda-A. Johnson, conjointe de General-H. -T. Johnson, mère de David, Ca Elizabeth McCombs Elizabeth McCombs Laguna et Richard, est décédée.
MCLEAN, Va. - Linda Ann Whittle Johnson passed on to Heaven on January 23, 2011. She was the devoted wife of General H. T. (Tillman) Johnson, USAF of Aiken, SC for over 51 years; cherished mother of Richard Johnson (Salinas, CA) Elizabeth McCombs (Laguna Beach, CA) and David Johnson (deceased): loving grandmother of Zac and Emily Johnson, Jeffrey Trojan, and Connor, Kathryn, and Kyle McCombs. Linda Whittle grew up in Augusta, GA with a large extended family. She often spent Sundays at her grandmother's in Grovetown along with more than fifty relatives enjoying each others' company. She attended Augusta College for two years and then transferred to the University of Georgia where she earned her BS in Psychology. She was a proud Georgia Bulldog fan. Her love of books led to a position at the city library in Augusta. Tillman's sister worked with Linda and introduced them when he was home on leave from the Air Force Academy. After a long distance, three year romance with many loving letters, they married after he graduated in 1959. Their marriage included 24 moves in Europe and across our nation. Life with Tillman was an adventure that she loved to share as he assumed prominent positions in the Air Force and in civilian life. Everywhere they lived, she formed friendships that endured all her life. Linda embraced the philosophy of and growing where she was planted and made each station into a home. She was deeply involved with the Red Cross, continuing her service with them until recently. Finally settling in McLean, VA, she again pursued her love of reading with her book club. Linda's life was filled with love and caring for family and friends. We will miss her grace, her laughter, and her smile. A memorial service will be held at the Walker Chapel, United Methodist Church, 4102 North Glebe Road, Arlington, VA 22207, Saturday, January 29, at 1:00 pm. She will be interred at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Red Cross, Walter Reed Army Medical Center, 6900 Georgia Avenue, NW, Washington DC 20307 where she served our troops.
