Funeral service for Sister Lillian Thomas Mitchell who died January 25, 2011 will be on Friday, February 4, 2011 at 1:00 P.M. at Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church, Rev. Nathan Mugala, pastor. Services of committal and Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. The wake will be on Thursday, February 3, 2011 from 5:30 P.M. until 7:30 P.M. at Herbert Thompson funeral Home. Lillian Thomas Mitchell was born December 20, 1925 in Monticello, FL. After leaving Monticello, Lillian resided in Winter Haven, FL and Jacksonville, FL prior to moving to Daytona Beach. She received her formative years of education in the public schools of Monticello, FL. Lillian was a homemaker and she enjoyed people, walking, reading, sewing, knitting, needlepoint, cooking, doing puzzles and spending time with her family-especially traveling to California taking in many sights and spoiling the grandkids. She loved her church (Allen Chapel) and served faithfully and diligently until her health failed. She was a member of the former "Young Women of Allen" Club. She was also an avid noon-day bible study scholar until her health began to fail. Lillian was preceded in death by her parents, Ardley and Lucendia Thomas; husband, Henry Mitchell, Sr.; and brothers, Luther, Willie, Cleveland and Ola Thomas. Lillian leaves to cherish her memory - sons, Hosea (Brenda) Thomas, Daly City, CA and Henry Mitchell, Jr., Daytona Beach, FL; grandchildren, Marinda (Jeff) McBride, San Francisco, CA, Jonathan Thomas, Daly City and Courtney Thomas, San Francisco, CA; brothers, Roosevelt (Irene S.) Thomas, Elvin Thomas, Sr. and John (Annie L.) Thomas all of Daytona Beach; sister-in law, Endia R. Thomas, Monticello, FL; stepdaughter, Barbara J. Mitchell; and step-granddaughter, Tammy N. Mitchell, both of Bronx, NY; host of sorrowing nephews, nieces, cousins and friends including special friends: Argie Brown and Mable Saxon.
