Lilla Mae Golden, known to many as "Mae Bush," passed away on Saturday, Oct. 13, at the Liberty Regional Medical Center. She was born on Dec. 16, 1934, in Eutawville, S.C. to David and Mae Liza Green. At a young age, she moved to New York where she met her husband, Albert Golden Jr. In 1976, they moved to the Holmestown community of Midway where she joined St. James Community Church and gave her life to Christ. She served faithfully as the president of the usher board, volunteered at the South Main Baptist Church for many years and conducted the free lunch program at the Holmestown park. She was preceded in death by one son, Henry Green. She is survived by her loving husband, Albert Golden Jr.; five daughters and son-in-law, Diane Smiley of Hinesville, Sharon Heard of Warner Robins, Tracey and Matthew Pinkney of Atlanta, Bridgett Bush of Hinesville and Shaneeka Golden of Atlanta; two sons and daughter-in-law, Rodney and Loretta Bush of Aurora, Colo., and Jerome Bush of Atlanta; a grandson raised as a son, Jerod Bush of Atlanta; 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives. Visitation will be from 6-7 p.m. Friday at the Dorchester Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. James Community Church. Her body will be placed in the church at 11 a.m. The Rev. Abel Huston will officiate. Interment will be at the church cemetery. Dorchester Funeral Home of Midway has charge of the arrangements.
