CARIBOU - Leo R. Berube, 84, husband of the late Mary E. (Day) Berube, passed away Tuesday evening, Feb. 3, 2009, at a Bangor health care facility, after a brief illness. He was born Aug. 30, 1924, in Caribou, the son of Vetal R. and Laura (Belanger) Berube. He attended Caribou schools and was married to Mary E. Day, March 8, 1943. Leo was employed as a welder for most of his life and was a member of Pipe Fitters Union, Local 176, Bangor. Leo will be remembered as a hard worker and a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather. He enjoyed visiting with his friends over coffee at the Caribou McDonald's. In addition to his parents, Mr. Berube was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Mary (Day) Berube, Feb. 10, 2005; one son, Brent Berube, July 4, 2007; one infant daughter, Valerie Lee Berube; two brothers, Vetal Berube Jr. and Sylvio Berube; and two sisters, Rose Brissette and Delcia Burby. He is survived by two sons, Peter and Larry Berube, both of Caribou; three daughters and sons-in-law, Arline and Randy Jameson of Cedar City, Utah, Sharon and Ray Malenfant of Belchertown, Mass., and Vicki and Mark Lerma of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; one sister, Flora Brissette of Caribou; eight grandchildren, Ricky Searles of New Hampshire, Terry Searles of Florida, Larry Searles of Pennsylvania, Kurt Patterson of Presque Isle, Kristi Gracie of Hermon, Amber Santiago of Seirra Vista, Ariz., Andrea Kramer of Spring Lake, N.C., and Angela Haines, currently stationed in Belgium; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews. In keeping with Leo's wishes, a graveside service of committal will be conducted at a later date at Old Holy Rosary Cemetery, Caribou.
