Laurie Vertetis Smith KINGSTON - Laurie Smith, 53 of Kingston passed away Thursday Feb. 27, 2014 at home surrounded by family and friends after a brave struggle with cancer. Laurie was born in Kingston on Sept. 27, 1960 to Jean B. Vertetis and the late William R. Vertetis. Laurie graduated from John A. Coleman High School in 1979 and then attended Ulster County Community College. Laurie worked for a period of time for New York Telephone and then worked for Friendly’s Corporation for twenty five years in various positions. Laurie was active in the Boy Scouts as assistant Den Leader Pack 103, Den 4 and also assistant leader of three girl scout troops in Port Ewen. Laurie enjoyed camping, bowling, reading and spending time with her family and dear friend Michele Dayton. Besides her mother Jean, Laurie is survived by her son Allan Smith and future daughter-in-law Meghan; granddaughter, Gabriella Grace; brother Mark Vertetis and his wife Sylvia; her partner and companion Kyle Bibbo and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Funeral arrangements are under the guidance of the Joseph V. Leahy Funeral Home, Inc. 27 Smith Avenue. www.jvleahyfh.com Friends will be received at the funeral home on Sunday from 3 to 7 p.m. A funeral procession will form 11 a.m. Tuesday March 4, 2014 at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 12 noon at Saint Joseph’s Church. Burial Saint Peter’s Cemetery in the spring.
