O'NEILL, Laura Ann (nee McDermott) With her daughter at her side, at the Perley Rideau Veterans Health Care Centre, Wednesday February 26, 2003, Laura Ann O'Neill age 85 years. Beloved wife of the late John Richard O'Neill. Loving mother of Debbie (Don Hurry). Cherished grandmother of Megan (Neil Wilson) and Allison, and proud Great Gramma to Allison's baby, Noah John. Dear sister of the late Florence (Mick O'Neil). Laura was born in Bolton Lancashire England and her family immigrated to beloved Nova Scotia when she was an infant. Her life as a mililtary wife was spent between the Maritimes and Ottawa. "I am standing upon that foreshore. A ship at my sides spreads her white sails to the morning breeze and starts for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength and I stand and watch her until at length she hangs like a speck of white cloud just where the sea and sky come down to mingle with each other. Then someone at my side says, "There! She's gone!" "Gone where?" "Gone from my sight, that's all". She is just as large in mast and spar and hull as ever she was when she left my side, just as able to bear her load of living freight to the place of her destination. Her diminished size is in me, not in her. And just at that moment when someone at my side says, "There! She's gone!" there are other eyes watching her coming and voices ready to take up the glad shout, "Here she comes!" And that is dying." Mom, you are in the tender arms of the Lord and your dear Husband, Parents and sister now. Guide us all, with Dad, for the rest of our earthly lives until we too can be with you again. Friends may pay respects at the Kelly Funeral Home, 1255 Walkley Rd. (East of Bank) Friday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral Saturday to Immaculate Heart of Mary Church for Mass of Christian Funeral at 10 a.m. Interment Hope Cemetery.
