On July 16, 2007, in Ecorse, Mich., Laura succumbed to cancer. Services were held on July 21, in Ecorse. Laura was born June 8, 1951, in Daytona Beach, Fla., and was a graduate of Campbell High School. She attended Bethune Cookman College and then went to live in Ecorse, Mich., where she was a resident for the past 37 years. Laura married Charles Donald in 1971, whose union produced two sons, Ennis and Andre, and one daughter, Ayana. She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, a loving sister, sister-in-law, aunt, cousin, and a dear friend to many. Laura loved shopping for shoes and purses, enjoyed going to the movies, and collecting angels and various figurines. Being "Grandma" was the core of her life. She was very proud of her grandchildren, De'Andre, Nathaniel, Dominique, Jordaynn, Isaiah, Myles and Tomas. Each has unique talents, which she supported as a proud grandparent. Laura was preceded in death by her sisters and brothers, Ethel, Henry, Elijah and Leatha Mae. Laura is survived by her loving husband, Charles Donald; children Ennis (Misty), Andre, and Ayana King (Nicholas); sisters and brothers, Vallie Mae Brown, James Smith (Betty), Earline McKinnie (Johnny), Alberta McQueen (Albert), Roderick (Bob) Smith; uncle, Pasco Yearby; grandchildren; and a host of in-laws, relatives, classmates and friends both in Michigan and Florida.
