Laura "Joyce" Gillett Williams NEW PORT RICHEY, FL Laura "Joyce" Gillett Williams, 85, of New Port Richey, Florida, died peacefully Thursday evening, February 26, 2015, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Born in Malone, NY, January 23, 1930, she left her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank and Jeanette Gillett, her father, Frank Gillett, Jr., before she was ten years old, to join her mother - Mildred Spencer Peck Hauck, also of Malone, and the maternal family in Utica, NY. She departed Utica in 1954 and moved to Miami, FL, with her four year old daughter and soon married her husband of fifty-four years, Maurice Estil Williams. Working at GE, waitressing, 20 years with Sears Roebuck and Company, Joyce moved from Miami to New Port Richey, FL, in 1982, where she became an antique dealer. She loved political debate and evidenced strong political conviction. Joyce was the primary caregiver for her mother and husband who predeceased her. Following her illness in 2013, Joyce went to live with her daughter in Idlewyld, Fort Lauderdale, FL. She will be remembered and missed by her daughter, Dr. Melodie Kay Moorehead; cousin, Howard O'Kusko and his wife, Carol, of Vernon, NY (their extended family), Tom Morrison, Maxine, Regina, Janet Blackburn, Helen Skinner, Marcelina, Ricoberto, Carmela, Carol Turk; her sister-in-law, Pat Marsh, Don Marsh, their daughter Kimberly Gray and family; brother-in-law, Bobby Joe and his wife, Shirley, their family, Susie and her husband, Cheryl and Steve Brown, of Lighthouse Point, FL; and senior citizens of Independence Hall where she played Blackjack on Fridays. The cremated remains of Joyce Williams will be placed above that of her mother in Morningside Cemetery, Malone, New York.
