Larry Wayne Smith, 77, a lifelong resident of Cherokee until his health failed, went home to his maker Saturday morning, Sept. 6, 2014. He retired from Cherokee Nitrogen in March 2005 with 43 years of service. Larry was a graduate of Cherokee Vocational High School and a member of First Baptist of Cherokee since 1950. Larry was always ready to share his faith with others. At the time of his death Larry was a resident of Southern Magnolia Assisted Living in Iuka, Mississippi. He was an active participant at the Tishomingo Senior Center where he often led the devotional activities. He was an avid Alabama football fan and enjoyed all sports. He was a devoted runner for many years.Visitation will be Monday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Morrison Funeral Home, Cherokee. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2014, in the funeral home chapel with his son-in-law, Tim Griffin, officiating. Burial will follow in Harris Chapel Cemetery.Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Cleatus and Flo Smith, his wives, Jean Walker Smith and Janet Parker Smith, and a son, Johnny Smith. He is survived by his daughters, Sherry Smith Coss (Cliff), College Grove, Tennessee, Christa Smith Griffin (Tim), Russellville, Alabama, Kim Smith Bishop, Tuscumbia, Alabama; sons, Danny Smith, Nashville, Tennessee, and Vince Smith (LouAnn), Bell Buckle, Tennessee; granddaughters, Bethany, Brianna and Alaina Bishop, and Rachel Griffin; and grandsons, Dustin (Kourtney), Josiah and Nathan Smith. Larry is also survived by two brothers, Eugene Smith (Vivian), Holly Springs, Mississippi, and Travis Smith (Jean), Germantown, Tennessee; and two sisters, Freda Daily (Marvin), Cherokee, and Donna Hargett (Douglas), Cherokee.Family will serve as pallbearers.Please sign the online guest book at morrisonfuneralhomes.com.
