Larry J. Le Blanc, 80, of Las Vegas, passed away Sunday, Sept. 18, 2005. He was born Feb. 12, 1925, in Plaquemine, La., and resided in Las Vegas for 10 years. He lived in San Antonio for 31 years, retiring from a successful military and civil service career encompassing 35 years. He entered the U.S. Army Air Corps in July of 1943. Following service as an aviation cadet, attended Aerial Gunnery School at Yuma, Ariz.; was assigned as a tail gunner on a B-24, 456th Bomb Group (15AF). Shot down on a mission to the Brenner Pass, he survived internment in prison camps at Wetzlar, Nuremberg, and Moosburg, Germany. Liberated by Patton's 3rd Army in April of 1945; he returned to the United States and was discharged in November of 1945. He returned to college, Louisiana State University, completed two degrees and began a career as administrator of civilian and military training schools that would culminate with retirement in 1983, and receipt of the Decoration for Exceptional Civilian Service. He maintained a dual career in the U.S. Air Force Reserves. His reserve participation resulted in recall with the 307th Bomb Wing (B-29) operating in Korea (1951) and final active duty with the 921st Troop Center Carrier Group during the Pueblo incident (1968) during the Vietnam War. Military retirement occurred February of 1985. His passions in life were his family, his country and L.S.U. Tiger football. He was preceded in death by his youngest daughter, Barbara (Dobie) Le Blanc. He is survived by his wife, of 60 years, Dora; daughter, Mary Kate "Katie" Dudley of Federal Way, Wash.; son-in-law, Mike Dudley of Federal Way, Wash.; grandson, Edward Le Blanc Dudley and wife, Alisha; granddaughter, Pamela Kristine Dudley and boyfriend, Kristhoper Nicholson, all of Las Vegas; and sister, Betty Levert of Lafayette, La. Services will be at 11:20 a.m. Monday, Sept. 26, at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City. Contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
