ANDERSON, LOIS W.Lois W. Anderson died peacefully in Nyack Hospital on January 7, 2005. She was 75 years old. She was born in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, NY on March 10, 1929 to Benjamin P. Whittaker and Hazel Lipsey Whittaker. She graduated from Fort Hamilton High School in Brooklyn and New Paltz State Teachers College. She spent over 40 years as a teacher in Upper Nyack and Clarkstown. In addition to raising three children, she was a true and accomplished homemaker who, over the years, sewed, gardened, upholstered, knitted and did handwork for her home and always provided from-scratch homemade meals for her family. She was an avid reader and a generous giver, known for her quick wit and succinct comments. She had a sharp mind and challenged herself with the daily crossword puzzle. She loved the hunt of a good bargain and relished discovering new discount stores wherever she was. She and her husband fulfilled her life-long dream of having a place by a lake and they spent many happy times at their cabin at Wolf Lake, NY. Lois was involved in various civic organizations, including Literacy Volunteers, the Congers Civic Association, local libraries and the Rockland County Historical Society. She is survived by her loving husband of 55 years David P. Anderson of Congers, her son Richard W. Anderson of Congers, her daughter and son-in-law Nancy and Richard E. Moore of Charlottesville, VA and her two granddaughters Elizabeth Anderson and Katherine Claire Moore of Charlottesville, as well as many, many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her son David James Anderson in 1982. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Congers-Valley Cottage Volunteer Ambulance Corps, St. John's Episcopal Church in New City, or to a charity of your choice. There will be a time to meet with the family on Sunday, January 9 at McGowan Funeral Home in Congers. Visitation hours will be from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm.
