Lawrence F. Petters - Cape Canaveral - Lawrence (Larry) Frederick Petters, 93, died on Friday, April 16, 2010 at Island Health and Rehab on Merritt Island, FL, following a brief illness. He leaves behind his sons, Larry Jr. and Bob; daughters, Susan and Nancy; six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, his brother, James Petters of Cocoa, and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Polly, after 48 years of marriage. Born in Washington DC, he spent his early years living on various Army posts with his parents, Frederick and Adelaide, and his two brothers. After graduating from the University of Washington with a degree in Economics and Business, he served as a Naval Aviator through the Second World War. He continued his passion for flight in the Army Air National Guard for many years. Later, as a contract administrator for General Electric Corporation; he received many accolades and awards for his negotiating skills during his 27 year career. Larry retired to Cape Canaveral in 1973 where he was an avid golfer and fisherman. He spent a lot of time on the water, on his king boat, and working on shrimp boats. He especially liked being on the beach early in the morning to watch the sunrise.
