March 3, 2008 L. Irene Smith, 88, formerly of Hastings, died Monday, March 3, 2008, at the Manor at Seneca Hill, Oswego. Born in Sandy Creek, she had also lived in West Monroe and Williamstown. She had worked at Pleasant Acres Nursing Home, Central Square. She was a former Sunday school teacher at Constantia Center Independent Baptist Church and a member of First Baptist Church of Fernwood. Irene was predeceased by her husband, Clinton, in 1983; a daughter, Marie, in 1952; and three sisters, Marion, Vivian and Margaret. Surviving are two sons, Ronald of Hastings and Raymond of West Monroe; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a half brother, Lloyd Smith of Tacoma, Washington. Memorial services will be 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 5, 2008, at WATSON FUNERAL HOME, INC., 631 S. Main St., Central Square, with interment in West Monroe Cemetery in the spring. Calling hour will be 2 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, before the service. Contributions may be made to the Hastings Volunteer Fire Department, Hastings, NY 13076.
