Kay Smith, transitioned on April 24th at the Delray Medical Center with family and friends at her bedside. Smith was a member of NSU's Board of Trustees and in 1997 became the first and only woman inducted into the Entrepreneur's Hall of Fame of the Wayne Huizenga Graduate School of Business and Entrepreneurship. She was a true example of entrepreneurship and has built four different businesses, with increasing success. In June 1986, Smith started her fourth business with only a $1,000 investment. She bought a distributorship through Nu Skin International, developed a subchapter five corporation named Career Development, Inc., and began teaching people how to build their own businesses. Her new business grossed $75 million in 1990 alone, and was instantly recognized around the world. Through her efforts in business, Smith has been awarded more than 20 recognitions in Who's Who of the World and six international Hall of Fame Awards. In addition to her business savvy, Smith was active politically and socially. During the late 1990s, she assisted in the development of legislation that permitted women equal access to credit. That two-year period established a strong relationship among Smith, the Department of Commerce in Washington, D.C., the Small Business Administration, and the National Association of Women Business Owners. Years later, with a desire to establish federal law against child abuse, Smith became deeply involved with the Reagan/Bush administration, serving on the President's Round Table in Washington, D.C., and becoming a member of the Inner Circle. As a single grandmother of three children, Smith desired to help neglected or abused children, and donated time, money, and products to the Children's Home Society of Broward County. Visitation will be 5-9 PM, Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at Babione Funeral Home, 1100 North Federal Highway Boca Raton, FL 33432 (561) 395-8787. A Celebration of Life Service will take place at 7 pm.
