Johnson, Kathryn M., 95, of Sterling, Ill., formerly of St. Petersburg, died Sunday (June 3, 2007) at Prophets Riverview Good Samaritan Center in Prophetstown, Ill. Born in Bogard, Mo., she came to this area in 1960 and moved to Sterling in 2005. She graduated in 1937 with a bachelorís degree from Baptist Missionary School in Chicago. She served as director of Christian education and was church secretary at First Baptist Church of Terre Haute, Ind., Central Baptist Church of Springfield, Ill., Foster Park Baptist Church of Chicago, and First Baptist Church of Royal Oak, Mich. She was also secretary of the Chicago Baptist Association and director of Christian education for 12 years. Locally she worked for the First Southern Baptist Church of New Port Richey until 1973 and retired in 1981 as an administrative secretary after eight years at Palm Shores Retirement Center in St. Petersburg. She was a longtime active member of the Church of the Beatitudes in St. Petersburg, where she was in the choir and led the mission committee of American Baptist Women. She was also on the devotions and hospitality committees, the church and ABW nominating committee and was a diaconate member. Survivors include two nieces, Mary Kay Cheek, Palmyra, Va., and Debbie Hinrichs, Prophetstown; two nephews, Terry Walker, Prophetstown, and Tom Walker, Sterling; and 10 great-nieces and nephews.
