Colbert - Pat Carter, 82, died October 27, 2007.A native of Jackson County, Mrs. Carter was a daughter of the late Paul Whitmire and Kate McDougal. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leon E. Carter, Sr., her son, Leon E. "Eddie" Carter, Jr., sisters, Bobbie Watts and Peggy Tolbert, and brothers, Lewis Whitmire, Jimmy Whitmire and Simon Whitmire. She was retired from Belk Department Store at Athens after 24 years of service. She was a Sunday School teacher for many years at the Warner Robins Church of the Nazarene and was recognized a Georgia State Sunday School Teacher of the Year. She was a member of the Colbert Baptist Church.Graveside services will be held at the Colbert City Cemetery at 3:00 P.M., Tuesday, October 30, 2007, with Rev. Don Fuller, Rev. Gerald Brunson and Rev. David Shiver officiating.Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Kathryn Anne Carter-Golden and Tom Golden, Mt. Dora, Fla.; a daughter-in-law and husband, Sharron and Ken Asbury, Byron; two sisters, Mildred Youmans, Swainsboro, and Joan Whitmire, Commerce; three brothers, Charles Whitmire, Jefferson, Billy Whitmire, Maysville, and Michael Whitmire, Shady Oak; grandchildren, Shawn Rudd, Blairsville, Mandy Szallar, Phoenix, Ark., Cathy Sierra and Ellen Henderson, Lakeland, Fla., and Tim Golden, San Diego, Calif.; great-grandchildren; nieces; and nephews.Pat (Patsy to brothers and sisters) was a much loved mother, wife, sister, grandmother, aunt, sister-in-law, mother-in-law, and friend, who was known for her generous spirit, loyalty to family and friends, sharp mind, and quick wit.
