SMITH, Kathleen (Kay) nee: ScollansWith heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of Kay Smith on October 25, 2011, at the age of 96 years.Kay was born on April 23, 1915 near Belturbet, County Cavan, Ireland. She moved to England to work and joined the armed forces during WWII where she met and married the love of her life, Corporal Dan Smith. They relocated to Edmonton after the war.She leaves to mourn her, sister Susie in Surrey, England; son Dan (Velta) Smith, Sherwood Park, AB; daughter Kathy (Ted) Washburn , Red Deer, AB; grandchildren Mike Washburn, Winnipeg, MB; Karen (Jason) Foote, Dieppe, NB; Alexandra and Benjamin Smith, Sherwood Park; great-grandchildren Ashley Washburn, Tyler, Brandon, Derek and Logan Foote as well as many relatives and friends in Canada, England and Ireland. We are indeed blessed to have had her kind and gentle spirit touch our lives.She was predeceased by her husband Dan, her parents and siblings John, Hugh, Nellie and Margaret.Funeral Mass will be on Saturday, November 5, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Clare's Church, 6310 - 118 Avenue, Edmonton. Please join us for lunch at the church after the service. Interment at Beechmount Cemetery, 12420 - 104 Street, Edmonton. Memorial donations gratefully accepted to the Alzheimer's Society or a charity of choice.
