BANGOR - Kathleen M. Wilson, 85, died Feb. 26, 2010, surrounded by her loving family, after a short illness. Kathleen was born and grew up in Hartsville, S.C., the daughter of Clara and Forrest Newsome. Kathleen graduated from Hartsville schools and met her husband, George W. Wilson, when he was stationed with the Army Air Force in Charleston, S.C., during Word War II. They were married there Dec. 12, 1945. Kathleen focused on raising their two children, Gary and Nancy, during George's long career in the Air Force. They were stationed in a number of locations, but settled in Bangor when George was transferred to Dow Air Force Base. As a family, they greatly enjoyed life in Maine, including camping, many trips up Mount Katahdin, as well as numerous snowmobile and fishing adventures. They built a family camp on Branch Lake, Ellsworth, and spent summers there for many years. Kathleen always made everyone feel welcome and summers were filled with visits from their children, grandchildren, relatives and friends. Kathleen also enjoyed traveling. She visited Hawaii several times, as well as many of the Caribbean islands and Alaska on trips with her husband. They spent winters in Coco Beach, Fla., after George's retirement. Kathleen was predeceased by her husband, George W. Wilson; and sisters, Margaret Fuchs and Edna Newsome. She leaves her son, Gary Wilson and his wife, Mary, of West Kennebunk; daughter, Nancy Freeman and her husband, Barry, of Bangor; grandchildren, Caitlin Oberg and her partner, Brandon Moon, Heather Johnston and her husband, Matt Johnston, and Ryan Freeman and his partner, Cheryl Powle; and great-grandchildren, Adriana Moon, Brady Moon, Zachary Johnston and Ella Johnston. She is also survived by her sisters, Jackie Deyerle and "Billie" Burns and husband, Galen Burns; brother, Basil Newsome; numerous nieces and nephews. A graveside memorial service in Kathleen's honor will be held 2 p.m. Friday, May 14, at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, exit 112B, Civic Center Drive, Augusta.
