OBITUARY KATHLEEN HODGSON FLEMING March 24, 1959 - April 21, 2010 Kathleen passed away from ovarian cancer at the Montreal General. She leaves her parents, Richard and Jacquelyn Hodgson, brothers Richard and David, nieces Alexandra, Nora and Alana, and nephew Harrison. Born in Montreal, and raised in London, Ontario, she was a graduate of Queen's University and the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design. Independent and adventurous, she travelled throughout Europe and the Americas, and had a special love for Nunavut. Montreal was her home for the past twenty-two years. Kathleen's company, Anra Mediatextes, was responsible for the translation and subtitling of hundreds of publications and films for curators and filmmakers throughout North America, a vocation that married her love of the arts and her gift for the nuances of language. It was Kathleen's hope that her translations would enhance cultural dialogue between French and English Canada, or in her words, "Fini les solitudes". Her translations will continue to debut at film premieres this summer. When not pursuing her own work, she employed her generous intelligence to advance the careers of many friends and acquaintances in the arts and film communities. Her love for her dog, Amarok (Ami) was reminiscent of the Mme de Stael quote, "The more I see of man, the more I like dogs". But throughout her life she gathered friends who were compassionate, steadfast and generous; they were especially so in her final months. They and her family will miss her greatly. Her family and friends thank the staff at the Montreal General Palliative Care Unit and MUHC medical oncology department for their kind and skillful care. Kathleen will be interred in a private ceremony at Mount Royal Cemetery. A celebratory gathering in Montreal is being organized.
