Kathleen Harris, née en 1924, conjointe de Kenneth-Lee Harris, mère de Mike, Steve, Paul et Washington, est décédée le 21 novembre 2008.
HARRIS _ Kathleen (Kitty) October 16, 1924 - November 21, 2008 Kathleen (Kitty) Florence Cely Harris (nee Dunn) of Calgary, on the ninetieth birthday of her late husband, Kenneth Lee Harris (1918 - 1996), passed away from injuries suffered in a traffic accident. Persons of a spiritual nature suggest she was sent to join Ken on his birthday, where she likely surprised him sneaking a smoke - as if she did not know. Kitty is survived by three sons, Mike (Jo Ann) of Marysville, BC, Steve (Colleen) of Calgary, and Paul of Tacoma, Washington; and by her only sibling, Ernie (Lil) Dunn of Basildon, UK. She is also survived by her grandchildren Amanda (Jory), Susan (Tim), Daniel (Lauren), Nicola Kenyon who knew her as Little Kitten; her great-grandchildren who knew her as Nana: Matthew, Zachary, Olivia, Tobias, and Veronica. She later took the role of grandmother to Fynn and Peer (Annie) Allan and great-grandmother to Quinn, Cate, and Bethany. She also leaves behind several nieces, nephews and extended family, and will be fondly remembered by Susan Kenyon and Catherine Sidwell. Kitty was born in 1924 in London, UK. She and Ken met in 1940 while he was in London serving with the RCAF and she was working in an aircraft factory riveting the Hawker Hurricanes that were so instrumental in winning the Battle of Britain. They married on June 3, 1944, with waves of bombers passing overhead and her brother Ernie attending the ceremony AWOL (after all, he did not know it was supposed to be D-Day, which was postponed to June 6). After the war, they moved to Canada in 1946, raising a family in various locales in southern Alberta before settling permanently in Calgary in 1948. Kitty worked as a stenographer for various law and accounting firms, finally settling in the oil patch before happily retiring. In retirement, she enjoyed her crafts, often donating the products of her labours to charities. She also fought fiercely to keep up with technology ("damnbloodycomputers" was one word), including programming her new wide-screen TV on which she kept current with the culture of the "old country", with Coronation Street being a favourite. While never entirely losing her accent (she always sat on the "sofer"), she was a full-bore Canadian since 1957. Memorial Services will be held at FIRST MEMORIAL FUNERAL SERVICE (240 - 17 Avenue S.W.) at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, November 29, 2008. In lieu of flowers, those who wish to express their condolences may make a donation to the Calgary Humane Society ( donate@calgaryhumane.ca). The final recipients of her giving nature will be U of C medical students.
