LATHAM Kathleen Elizabeth Sullivan died Wednesday, October 26, 2005 at home after a long illness. She was 16. Kathleen was born in Schenectady and was a student at Shaker High School. She is survived by her parents, Dianna Lynn Harris and Nelson E. Harris of Latham and Tim J. Sullivan of Schenectady. Survivors also include her sister, Melissa I. Sullivan and her brother, John R. Sullivan, both of Latham; her maternal grandmother, Rita Fazzone of Niskayuna and her paternal grandmother, Patricia Sullivan of Colonie. Kathleen is also survived by her step-grandfather, Nelson E. Harris Sr. of Lake George and his loving family. Survivors include several aunts and uncles, including her Zip, Uncle Phil Fazzone and her uncle T. Special, too, are Aunt Dee Dee and her family. Many cousins also survive. She was predeceased by her maternal grandfather, Sylvester Fazzone; her paternal grandfather, Robert Sullivan; and her step-grandmother, Grace E. Harris. Kathleen had numerous devoted and loyal friends. Amber, her Bum was special among them. She considered the doctors, nurses and staff at Albany Medical Center as her second family. She was a diligent student who was often praised by her teachers. She was artistic and leaves her family with her stunning drawings and collages. A former Girl Scout and dance student, Kathleen was drawn to the ocean and the dolphins. She saw beauty in each seashell she collected. She loved her pets and was dedicated and caring to her three dogs, Max, Chico and Spanklin, as well as her cat, Fluffy. Those who attended Kathleen's Sweet 16 Birthday Party in September saw that she accepted her illness with amazing grace and wisdom and courage beyond her years. She was glowing with her soft, inner beauty and demonstrated such sweet silent strength. Kathleen was humbled by the gift of presence from those who came to her party under the big tent. She comforted those who came to comfort her. It was her gift to them. Two years ago, at age 14 and while in remission from her illness, Kathleen wrote about having brain cancer. In part, she said: ...I have learned a great deal from the experience I've been through. I can definitely see a change from the person I was a year ago and the person I am today. Over the past year, I have developed a much less self-absorbed lifestyle. Instead of constantly thinking of my own life, I now realize there is a world around me. This world is filled with many people...many different people. After meeting so many new people, I have realized that nobody's perfect and not to judge people by what they look like, or where they are from, or whether or not they like something you don't. This experience was a major part of my life, and I have learned a great lesson because of it. Rejoice! We have a new angel in our midst! Funeral services will be Monday morning at 11:00 at New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd, Colonie (Rt. 155 - south of Central Ave). Calling hours will be Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Memory's Garden. Memorial contributions in Kathleen's name may be made to the Children's Hospital at Albany Medical Center, Pediatric Hematology/Oncology, PO Box 1189, Albany, NY 12201-1189 or the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Northeast New York, 950 New Loudon Rd., Suite 280, Latham, NY 12110.
