Kathleen C. (Burke) Harrington, 76, of Acton, died peacefully Tues. Oct. 18, 2011 at her home with her family by her side. She and her husband, Walter S. Harrington Jr., recently celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary. Born in Medford, she was raised in North Cambridge and Medford, the daughter of the late Henry L. and Yvonne (Ross) Burke. A registered nurse, Mrs. Harrington was a graduate of Medford High School and the Lawrence Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Medford with the Class of 1956. She married that year, and spent the first few weeks at the Great Lakes Naval Station and later for three years in Newport, RI. where her husband served as an officer in the US Navy. The couple also lived in Lexington, MA. for a time before settling in Acton in December, 1964. Mrs. Harrington centered her life around her family, providing a loving home for her husband and children. She also was formerly employed at the Rivercrest Long Term Care in Concord. An avid reader, she especially enjoyed time with her family skiing and camping. In addition to her husband, she is survived by four children, Maureen Dudek and husband, Gary, of Chelmsford, Stephen Harrington and wife, Silvia, of N. Andover, John Harrington and wife, Wendy, of Medway, & Neal Harrington and wife, Erica, of Rockland; a sister Carolyn Keane and husband, William, of Tewksbury. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren and a large extended family. Visiting hours are Fri. Oct. 21st from 2-4 & 7-9pm at the Acton Funeral Home, 470 Mass Ave (Rte 111) Acton. The funeral Mass will be celebrated Sat. Oct. 22nd at 10:30am in St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church, 89 Arlington St., Acton, with burial following in Woodlawn Cemetery, Concord Rd., Acton. Gifts in memory of Kathleen Harrington may be directed to the MGH Cancer Center in support of Dr. Shaw's lung cancer research.
