Katherine Ryanformerly of Deposit, N.Y.Katherine Ryan, 95, formerly of Deposit, N.Y., passed peacefully away on Saturday, April 23, 2005 at Countryside Care Center in Delhi, N.Y. She was born on the 4th of July, 1909 to Michael and Mary (Dunleavy) Ryan of Beebe Hill, Deposit. She graduated from Deposit High School in 1928 as salutatorian of her class. She received her B.A. degree from Hartwick College in 1932 and went on to library school in Albany, N.Y. She held teaching positions in Schenevus, N.Y. and at St. Rose College in Albany. During WWII, Katherine worked at the Scintilla Plant in Sidney, but returned to teaching afterwords in Lake George, Johnson City, Binghamton and Deposit. Katherine was predeceased by her parents and four brothers, Paul, Bernard, Lawrence and Vincent. She is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Eileen and Bill Kearns of Prescott, Ontario and many nieces and nephews. She was a lifelong member of St. Joseph's Parish in Deposit and charter member and one-time Grand Regent of the Court of the Holy Family Chapter of Catholic Daughters of America.A Funeral Mass will be offered by Rev. John Booth at St. Joseph's Church in Deposit at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 26, 2005. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Deposit. Friends may call at the Zacharias Funeral Home in Deposit on Monday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Deposit Educational Endowment Program (D.E.E.P.), P.O. Box 22, Deposit, N.Y. 13754 in Katherine's name.
