Katherine Dorothy Montgomery was born November 16, 1917 as Kaska Pasternak at Etherlbert, MB to Michael and Nellie Pasternak; the youngest of eight children. In the early thirties, at age 14, Kay left home to work with her older brother Bob Pasternak, who cooked at the Herb Lake Mine. She than moved with him when he bought the Ridgedale Hotel. Kay married Ab Montgomery, a Ridgedale farmer and grain buyer. They ran the Ridgedale Hotel, than bought the Tisdale Hotel in 1945. On April 14, 1952, their son Grant was born. Ab passed away on December 4, 1970, but Kay continued to run the Tisdale Hotel until her retirement in 1999. She bought a new house the first house she had ever owned, having always lived in the hotel, where she worked. Kay generously supported the community. Some example are visible all over our community, while others were quietly done. In 2008, she was chosen as Tisdale Citizen of the Year by the Chamber of Commerce. She always said the community was good to her in her business for over 50 years and she wanted to repay everyone. Kay passed away December 2, 2010. She is survived by her son; Grant, her sisters-in-law, Mary Pasternak and Dorothea Pasternak; along with many nieces, nephews and hundreds of friends. Funeral Services for Kay Montgomery will be held from the St. Matthew's Anglican Church, Tisdale Saskatchewan on Saturday, December 4, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. with Fr. Gethin Edward officiating. Interment will follow in the Tisdale Cemetery, Tisdale, Saskatchewan. Barron's Funeral Chapel and Crematorium is honored to serve Kay's family. 306 873 2124
