ALLEN, Katherine Marie (Katie)Age 59, ended her battle with cancer, surrounded by her family on Tuesday, January 29, 2008. She is survived by parents, Edgar Allen, Jr. and Ruth Gordon Allen; brother, Edgar Allen III (Kathi) and sister, Susan Allen Huggins (Bill), all of Nashville, TN. Other survivors include nieces, Jessica Allen Rice (Keith), Jana Allen and Ruth Huggins, and nephews, William Allen (Lindy) and Allen Huggins (Maggie). Katie was a 1966 graduate of Donelson High School where she was known for her beautiful alto voice, and Western Kentucky University. She was a beloved and dedicated employee of Metro Parks and Recreation for nearly 35 years. The family would like to thank all her loyal and supportive friends at the Parks, especially Bob Benson, Tommy Lynch, Janet Frazier, Cheryl Brown, Jim Fyke, Delilah Tuck, Sally Davis, Mitzie Curtis, Phil Luckett, Judy Gilley, Roy Wilson, Linda Vanlandingham, Earl Woolwine, David Eubank, Barry McAlister, Pam Crenshaw, Mary Lackey, Debbie Sykes, Emily Anderson, Allison DeVault, Sherry Walker and everyone who included her in their thoughts, prayers and notes of encouragement during her ordeal. Also, the family would like to thank the dearest neighbor in the world, Brad Gilland. Her life was better because of these friends and they were like a second family to her. She requested that her body be donated to Vanderbilt Medical School. A Memorial service will be held on Friday, February 1, 2008 at 4 p.m., at St. David's Episcopal Church, 6501 Pennywell Drive, Nashville, TN 37205 with the Rev. Eric S. Greenwood, Jr. and the Rev. Canon Geoffrey Butcher officiating. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Gilda's Club Nashville, 1033 - 18th Avenue S., Nashville, TN 37212; Willowbrook Hospice, 1164 Columbia Avenue, Franklin, TN 37064 or a charity of your choice.
