TRAVERS Katherine E. Travers, Ponte Vedra, FL - A Funeral Mass was recently conducted at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, for Katherine (Kay) Travers who passed away Sunday, December 5, 2010 surrounded by her children and their families at home after a brief illness. Kay was born October 29, 1921, in Winchester, Massachusetts, a daughter of Daniel and Katherine O'Leary. She attended Bryant & Stratford Business School and later worked as an executive secretary for the government. After marrying Thomas Travers in 1946, the couple moved to Youngstown, Ohio, where her husband was eventually appointed CEO of a hydraulic manufacturing company. Kay and Tom raised six children in Ohio. In 1963, the family moved to Luxembourg, City, Luxembourg and lived in Europe for two years. While overseas, she provided support, not only for her own family, but for other families transitioning to life in Europe. At retirement, the couple enjoyed their time in residences located in Canfield, Ohio and Clearwater Beach, Florida, until their final move to Ponte Vedra to live near their daughter, Maureen Harper, and her family. Kay volunteered in many charitable organizations and her Church over the years. She and her husband enjoyed travelling and playing golf together during retirement. Kay's other interests included attending the theatre, reading novels and enjoying her grandchildren at the beach. Kay leaves five children: Atty. Thomas J. (Cathy) Travers, Jr. of Youngstown, OH; Maureen T. (Jack) Harper of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL; Dr. Daniel J. (Christine) Travers of Fort Collins, CO; Atty. Richard D. (Deborah) Travers of Edwards, CO; Atty. Robert J. (Sue Ellen) Travers of Northborough, MA.; and her nineteen grandchildren and one precious great-grandchild, Annie Prevatt. Kay was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas, and a son, Atty. Stephen W. (Barbara) Travers. Memorial contributions may be made to Mission House, 800 Shetter Ave., Jacksonville Beach, FL. 32250.
