KATHERINE E. JOHNSON VALPARAISO, IN Katherine E. Johnson, age 94, of Valparaiso (formerly of Gary and Merrillville) passed away Thursday, January 6, 2011 at Whispering Pines, Valparaiso under the compassionate care of the Pines and the VNA Hospice staff. Katherine was born April 1, 1916 in Gary, IN to Frank and Kate Galloway and attended Emerson High School in Gary. She was married on May 31, 1941 in Gary to James C. Johnson, who retired from Gary National Bank. Katherine was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sisters: Blanche (Edward) Dunn (Portage) and Audrey (Don) Schmidt (Los Angeles); and brother, Frank (Evelyn) Galloway (Valparaiso). She is survived by her son, John C. (Linda) Johnson; two grandchildren: John Michael Johnson (friend Mindy Anderson) and Amanda "Mandy" Marie (Joshua) Wiley and their two great granddogs: Precious and Coda Bear; and one niece, Tamara (Stan) Huseman of Idaho. Private family services will be held at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton, IN. Interment at McCool Cemetery, Portage, IN with husband James.
