SPRINGFIELD - Karl F. Sanborn, 71, died June 17, 2011, at his home. He was born Sept. 28, 1939, in Springfield, the son of Benning B. and Gertha M. (Ross) Sanborn. He graduated from Springfield High School in 1958. Mr. Sanborn served in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1960 stationed in Greenland and spent two more years in the Army Reserves. He was employed at Carey's Super Market and First National Grocery Store, both in Springfield, and at the Vermont Country Store for many years, retiring in 2004. He was a member of Sam's Club RV Club and enjoyed his RV and camping. He was a member of Chester American Legion Post 67 and a former member of Springfield Bowling League and enjoyed bowling. Survivors include three brothers, Neal of Springfield, Kurt of Midlothian, Texas, and Kent Sanborn of Millington, Tenn.; a sister, Kathleen Abbott of North Springfield; longtime companion, Judy Greene of Springfield; 11 nieces and nephews and several grandnieces and nephews. Mr. Sanborn was predeceased by a brother, Ross Sanborn. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 22, at the Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield. Burial will be at a later date in Oakland Cemetery in Springfield.
