CHARTRAND, Karine Suzanne C. Dec. 28th, 1980 - Dec. 31st, 2003 Student - La Cite Collegiale Employee - Sears Canada Inc. Peacefully, at home as she wanted, following a 2-year battle with Bone Lymphoma. Cherished daughter of Gilles and Lyse Chartrand (nee Villeneuve). Beloved sister of Alain (Shauna Smith). Survived by her maternal grandmother Cecile Villeneuve. Dear god-daughter of Suzanne Villeneuve (Reid Evans) and Guy Chartrand (Carmen Begin). She also leaves to mourn her loss many aunts, uncles, cousins and numerous loyal friends. Special thanks to her aunt Marie-Paule Chartrand for her consistent assistance. Karine was the cancer patient for whom the "Hair 4 Lymphoma" event was held in January 2002, a brainchild of her good friend Eliane Amyot. This event raised almost $15,000 which resulted in the creation of a support group (Connextions) for young cancer patients aged 17-35 at the ORCC; Karine had the opportunity to attend the first few meetings and was very involved in its establishment. The family wants to thank the Ottawa Hospital - General Campus BMT Team and in particular her oncologist Dr. Isabelle Bence-Bruckler for the very good care provided. Thanks for the special care are also extended to the VON and to her assigned nurse , Nicole Viau. The family is extremely grateful to Dr. Louise Coulombe and especially to their family physician Dr. Louise Linney, for the constant excellent medical care she provided as well as numerous home visits and her exceptional availability to the entire family over the past 2 years. Karine's courage was second to none; she was an inspiration to all who knew her. A celebration of Karine's life will be held on Saturday, January 3rd, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at the Sainte-Marie Catholic Church, 4831 Innes Rd., Orleans. The family will receive attendees after the service.
