Karen Smith Kouts Karen Smith "Chops", 62 of Kouts, passed away Sunday, September 26, 2004 at her home. A Kouts resident since 1988, coming from Valparaiso, she was born November 29, 1941 in Valparaiso to Fred and Charlotte (Denny) Shepard. On March 15, 1986 in Valparaiso, she married Tom Smith, who preceded her in death. Survivors include four children: Debbie (Mike) Dohner and Dianna (Dale Bartholomew) Nuss, both of Valparaiso, Kevin Pierce of Kouts and Robert Pierce of Michigan; two granddaughters, Stephanie (Marty) Gerber and Nicole Sierra. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents. Karen will be truly missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Kosanke Funeral Home, Kouts, followed by cremation at Angelcrest Crematory. Memorials may be made to VNA Hospice. angelcrestinc.com.
