April 13, 2005 Karen was born in North Syracuse, New York, daughter of Fred and Shirley Risto. She was a graduate of Fredonia State University and taught high school French and Spanish for many years in New York and Michigan. After moving to San Diego in 1981, she devoted 20 years working with the developmentally disabled at The ARC of San Diego Starlight Center in Chula Vista, California. Karen passed away in her home after a four-year battle with cancer. She is survived by her husband, Glenn of Chula Vista; four children, Evelyn (Steve) Seitz of Ithaca, Michigan, Janet (Richard) Ohl of Westminster, California, Christopher (Karee) Beck of Breckenridge, Michigan, and Sandra (Jaramia) Richards of Shepherd, Michigan; six grandchildren, Riley Ohl, Charles, Kathryne, Kayli, and Cavun Beck, and Sarena Richards; her mother, Shirley Risto of North Syracuse, New York; her brother, Ronald (Pamela) Risto of La Mesa, California. A memorial service was held on Saturday, April 16, at Humphrey Mortuary, 753 Broadway, Chula Vista, California. Visiting hours were held from 1 to 4 p.m., followed by the memorial service at 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The ARC of San Diego,Starlight Center, 1280 Nolan Avenue, Chula Vista, California.
