M. Karen (Fortier) Holmgren, of East Bridgewater, died peacefully May 11, after a long battle with cancer. She was age 66. Loving daughter of the late Andrew C. and Mary (Morey) Fortier, Karen was a graduate of East Bridgewater High School, Class of 1962, and raised her family in Brockton. She worked for many years at the New England Telephone Company. She retired after 27 years of service. Karen later became a waitress at the Standish Grill in East Bridgewater. She was fond of sewing, knitting, crocheting and spending time with her family. Karen was the loving mother of Kris A. Holmgren (Army National Guard) of East Bridgewater and Kerry Alana and her husband John W. Ames of West Bridgewater; proud grandmother of Konner Holmgren, Brittany, Jordan, and Jesse Ames; loving sister of Eugene F. and Charles R. and his wife Anne of East Bridgewater, Andrew C. of New Jersey, Joanne Fernandes of Georgia, Kathie MacNeil-Pollock of Abington and the late Cheryl; loving best friend of Valerie (Johnson) Goss and her family of EastBridgewater. Karen is also survived by several nieces and nephews. "Nana Karen," along with her sense of humor, will be terribly missed by all who knew and loved her. Family and friends are invited to a visitation period Sunday, May 22, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with a funeral service starting at 1 p.m. at the Prophett-Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 98 Bedford St., Bridgewater, followed by a celebration of life at the Samoset Rod and Gun Club, at 350 Matfield St., West Bridgewater.
