Kathrine (Kathy) Gail SmithOctober 22, 1965 - January 30, 2013On Wednesday January 30, 2013 Kathy passed away peacefully surrounded by her daughters after her five year battle with cancer. She was 29 years of age again. Kathy is predeceased by her Step-father Albert Anderson, Grandparents Albert (Alex) and Francis Hurley and William and Pauline Smith, nephew Ronald Brown, and cousin Robbie Smith. She is survived by her two beautiful daughters, Khir-a (Bryan) and Nichole (Shawn), and her pride and joy, granddaughter Emery and grandson Bryan. She is also survived by her mother Margaret Anderson and father Nick Smith (June), her twin brother Ken Smith, brother Bill Smith (Jenny), sister Christina Shordee (Vance), step-brother Al Anderson, sister-in-law Karen Middleton, and nieces and nephews Lisa Marie, Christopher, Dustin, Anthony, Dominique, and Ty. Her closest friends are Judy Lloyd and Kathy (Robert) Kurtz. She also has numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, and cousins in her extended family.Kathy was born in Regina, Saskatchewan where she resided for her life. She attended Pasqua, Regent, and Arcola Elementary Schools and graduated from Cochrane High School, places that lived near and dear in her heart. She endeavoured in furthering her schooling but found true happiness in raising her girls for their childhood years. Kathy was often committed to any task she ventured, including her earlier years of putting her gift to gab with telecommunications and her employment for the past 8 years at the Holiday Inn Express. Even in her final days, she commented about the inconvenience of medical interventions as it would prevent her return to work. Similarly, Kathy was truly committed to being a mom, grandma, sister, and friend. She never hesitated in caring for her grandkids, as well as, her niece, nephews, and any other person who needed a helping hand or just an ear to listen. Her coffee friends and on-line friends will dearly miss her company. A celebration of Kathy's life will be held at Broadway United Church, 105 Broadway Avenue, Regina on Saturday February 16, 2013 at 1:30pm. In lieu of flowers, it is the family's wish that donations be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
