JOHNSON, KATHLEEN ALLEN, 92, E. Howry Ave., DeLand, died February 10, 2003. Born July 30, 1910 in DeLand. She was graduated from Randolf Macon Institute Prep School in Virginia. She obtained degrees from Stetson University and also attended Eastman School of Music at the University of Rochester, NY. After the sudden death of her first husband, Ernest Dator, she returned to DeLand in 1935. She married William DuBose in 1938. She taught in public schools in Marianna, Daytona Beach, and St. Cloud, Florida. In 1951 she joined the faculty at Stetson University School of Music where she taught music and piano to school age children through the preparatory music program. In 1953, she married a long time friend, Carl "Doc" Johnson, who coached baseball at Stetson for many years. In 1958, she left the School of Music and joined the faculty of the English Department until she retired in 1983. She was a dedicated teacher with great love for her students. She was a recipient of the McEniry Award for teaching excellence. She held the Kenneth P. Kirchman Chair for Humanities. Memberships include Pi Beta Phi Fraternity, P.E.O. Sisterhood, American Association of University of Professors. She is survived by her sister, Elizabeth Allen of DeLand; sons James Dator of Honolulu, Hawaii, and William DuBose of Orlando; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Interment to be at Oakdale Cemetery, DeLand, at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the Kirchman Chair of Humanities, Office of Development, Stetson University, 421 N. Woodland Blvd., Unit 8286, DeLand, FL 32723. Allen-Summerhill Funeral Home, 126 E. New York Avenue, DeLand, is in charge of arrangements.
