SIMONS, June Alberta June 8, 1920 - June 11, 2009 "Is it over? Am I free?" Yes, my darling June , the trauma and suffering are no more. But you did survive long enough to see your 89th birthday - to be with those who love you for the last time. And you were alert enough to know everyone and communicate with them. You even responded to the music and shared a few bites of sister Lois' angel-food cake and ice cream. All of your siblings were there - Evelyn Ruzicka, Janie Powell, Lois MacKay, and Larry Powell, as well as other family members and a few close friends. How fortunate we were to be able to spend this one last time together, on your birthday. A better partner in marriage no one could wish for. You were always warm, outgoing, loving, generous, completely open-minded and non-judgmental. You were the navigator that kept me from making too many dumb decisions, and kept our trip through the seas of matrimony from running aground. In our 66 years together I had plenty of time to learn from seeing you in action - your gregariousness and its effect on everyone you communicated with. Right to the end you were more concerned about the others in the family than yourself. Everyone who knew you loved you. In any group, new or old, everyone took to you. Your ready cheerful smile and your embrace was always taken to be open and safe. Your sense of humor was sharp and without limitation. After all the years and hearing all the many repetitions, you still laughed at my old jokes. I was always glad to play your favorite music on the piano. You cannot imagine how much I will miss having you at my side - and how much I love you. - Morris June is survived by husband Morris, children Judy Harcourt (Peter), Laurie Simons (Terry Sterrenberg) and Len Simons, grandchildren Rick (Kathy), Kristy (Christine), Evan, Jeffrey and Jay and great-grandchild Jenny. She also leaves behind many sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews and cherished friends. June is predeceased by her parents Tennyson and Gladys Powell and brothers Lloyd and Don. Our family thanks the many medical professionals who offered June care and dignity during her months of hospital and homecare. June's family invites her relatives and friends to a celebration of her life on Tuesday, June 16, at 1:00 p.m. at the Unitarian Church, 10804 - 119 Street. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.
