Athens - Julia Mae Peterson, 87, died February 13, 2009.A native of Clarke County, Ga., she was a daughter of the late John Carlton and Dora Sims Payne. She retired after more than twenty years of employment in the Gaines School Road Elementary School cafeteria and was a charter member of Johnson Drive Baptist Church.Funeral services will be Tuesday, February 17, 2009 at 2 p.m. at Johnson Drive Baptist Church with Rev. Jeff Wells officiating. Interment will be in Oconee Hill Cemetery.Survivors include her husband, Grant G. Peterson Jr.; children, Grant G. (Cindy) Peterson III of Townsend, Ga., John (Wanda) Peterson of Marietta, Ga., Karen (Greg) Holland of Athens; "adopted" daughter, Pat and husband, Danny, of Lebanon, Va.; five grandchildren, Paul, Wendy, Brandi, Erik and Joshua; great-granddaughter, Magdalene and numerous nieces and nephews.The family will receive friends Monday from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. at the funeral home.Flowers are optional. Memorials may be made to Johnson Drive Baptist Church.Lord and Stephens, EAST, is in charge of arrangements.
